Ian Averiss

Counsellor in Humanistic Psychotherapy, SW & W. London

What is Counselling?

Counselling can help to find inner resources, to better manage relationships, resolve problems and heal old wounds.

Counselling can help people to get "unstuck" and cope with problems, anxieties and uncertainties.
It can help people to discover and grow inner strengths and achieve a greater sense of balance in life.

Ways to use Counselling

  •  to explore a current problem - either a specific problem or perhaps a general feeling of being "stuck"

  • to cope with feelings of distress or dissatisfaction - perhaps with a sense of loss of direction or purpose

  • when there is a sense of needing to make changes in one's own life and improve relationships with others

It does not matter how "big" or "small" a problem is and we do not have to wait until we are in a crisis to benefit from Counselling.  Counselling can be a way to pause for a moment, take stock and check the way forward.
Whatever the need, Counselling can be an effective means of addressing life's ups and downs.

As a Counsellor, I am trained, experienced and impartial and can provide support and objectivity.

Areas that I work with include:

  • relationships, responsibility & personal growth
  • career, planning & finances
  • illness, stress, anxiety & depression
  • loss, trauma, addiction & anger
  • balance

I believe that Counselling is unique to every individual.

About me

I began studying Counselling and Psychotherapy at Spectrum in 2004,
after a successful business career in Information Technology.

Spectrum's training is based on humanistic and existential psychotherapy, as well as formative psychology.

The humanistic approach recognises that we are all unique individuals, with our own capacity to
know ourselves, heal ourselves, accept responsibility for ourselves and give shape and value to our lives.

Formative psychology is a powerful way to explore ourselves as whole beings, who think, feel and act;
it recognises that our minds and hearts are not separate but complimentary.

I am in ongoing professional development and supervision at Spectrum and work within
the Spectrum Code of Ethics.  Client confidentiality is maintained at all times.

Spectrum is a centre for humanistic psychotherapy and a member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy
